What does MPJE stand for?

MPJE stands for Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination.

What is the MPJE?

The MPJE is a pharmacy law examination created by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) in the United States to help state boards of pharmacy assess applicants’ competency and knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations.

How do you apply for eligibility for the MPJE?

You must apply for the MPJE by completing the eligibility application process. For details on applying for the MPJE, visit the NABP Candidate Application Bulletin.

When do you take the MPJE?

After graduating from an accredited College of Pharmacy, graduates must take the NAPLEX. The MPJE will also be required for licensure in most states. International graduates and people moving to different states or jurisdictions may also be required to take the MPJE.

How much does the MPJE cost?

Per the NABP Candidate Application Bulletin, applying for the MPJE costs $100 per jurisdiction, and you must remit payment to the NABP when you apply. Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Utah charge an additional fee. Note that this application fee is not to be confused with the exam fee, which you can only purchase after the board deems you eligible.

How is the MPJE scored?

As of January 18, 2021, MPJE results are reported as Pass or Fail. You will not receive a numerical score.

How many questions can you miss on the MPJE?

You must answer at least 107 questions on the exam; anything less and your scores will not be counted. To give yourself the best chance of passing, you should answer all 120 questions on the examination because if you answer the minimum number of questions but less than 120, you will be penalized.

Do you have to take MPJE for each state?

If you wish to practice pharmacy, most states and jurisdictions require you to take the MPJE. The MPJE tests candidates on both federal and state-specific law questions. Only five jurisdictions do not utilize the MPJE:

  • Arkansas
  • California (their CPJE exam will transition to the MPJE in the future)
  • Idaho
  • Puerto Rico
  • U.S. Virgin Islands

How hard is the MPJE?

Like the NAPLEX, the MPJE is a rigorous exam in its own right. It requires memorization of laws and their applications. It challenges you to think in new ways since its questions are adaptive-response. Adaptive-response means questions change depending on whether or not you answered the previous questions correctly.

How do you study for the MPJE?

While there is no one-size-fits-all solution to preparing for the MPJE, creating a study schedule you can stick to and preparing with the right review course will put you in a position to succeed. How long do you have to study for the MPJE?

Most students find three and six weeks of study time enough to pass, although we recommend you prepare over a much longer period using the study strategy outlined above. Exactly how long you should study will depend on your comfort level with the topics tested on the exam, your experience, and your unique circumstances.

How long does it take to get MPJE results?

On average, it takes about seven business days to receive your MPJE results after taking the exam.

What is the pass rate for MPJE?

Among first-time test-takers, the average pass rate is around 84.59%. Check out MPJE pass rates by pharmacy school from 2018-2022.

What happens if you fail MPJE?

If you fail the MPJE, you may reapply to retake it; however, you will have to wait 30 days between attempts.

How many times can you take the MPJE?

Most states allow you to take the MPJE a total of five times unless a board of pharmacy determines otherwise. Some states are more strict and do not allow five attempts.

How do you reapply for the MPJE?

To reapply for the MPJE, you must go through the application process again and pay for the application and exam fees. The board of pharmacy where you are seeking licensure will have to confirm your eligibility once again. You must go through the waiting period of 30 days before you can re-register for the MPJE.
